Alteration & Addition Works for the Garden Bakery at 58 Castle Peak Road, Kowloon

Garden is a famous brand name in Hong Kong’s bakery and has played a significant role in the production of high quality western cakes and biscuits since 1927.

Garden owned it’s building on Castle Peak Road (“The Building”) with production line in or about 1938. After several renovation and extension in the 1950s, The Building had a five-story structure with a clock tower at top. Subsequently, the clock tower with partial red facades and two “bakery chef” logos (both referred as “Historic Features”) become the icon in Sham Shui Po. Eventually, The Building was classified as a Grade II historic building in 2018.

Chinney was awarded the main contract for The Building, namely Alteration & Addition Works for the Garden Bakery at 58 Castle Peak Road (“The Works”). The total gross floor areas of The Works is 8,000 sqm. The scope of works includes spalling repairing, structural strengthening, facade renovation, window installation, interior renovation, installation of 2 lift cars and the associated E&M works.

With Chinney’s extreme care during the contract period, the Historic Features have been preserved and re-decorated for Hong Kong people’s collective childhood memories. The Works was completed in June 2023.
